**Curator's Note**  
*"I have a painting by Sim Wong which I treasure greatly. It sits among a goodly number of works by other artists, but it is distinctive in its qualities for a number of reasons. Watercolour is a demanding medium and many artists will attest to those difficulties. Sim, as an elected member of The Canadian Society of Painters In Water Colour, our national watercolour society, has been recognized by jurors for her individual expertise. You will note in viewing her paintings that they have ‘atmosphere.’ One can immediately recognize the very gentle quality of her brushstrokes which result in a diaphanous humid quality of life. The birds feel the softness of the air, the fish eddy the water. The scenes have no beginning or ending as they slide into the image plane and gently float out of it. You have missed a part of the image but what is there implies the many layered scrims, those soft overlappings blending the light. And petals; the brushstrokes are as soft as petals"*

Sim Wong for Spotlight, September 2026

Sim Wong was born in Malaysia and came to Canada in 1974, where she began her artistic training in traditional Chinese painting. Over the years, she developed a distinctive voice in watercolour, drawing on a wide range of techniques to create work that bridges Eastern and Western artistic traditions.

Her work has been collected internationally, with paintings held in private collections across Asia, Canada, and the United States. She is a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour, was a signature member of the Toronto Watercolour Society, and has been a longtime member of the Art Guild of Scarborough.
