Lin Souliere

Lin Souliere

I look for interesting shapes, pattern and light in the landscape. The way the angle of the light hits the corner of a rock, or the complex patterns formed by snow on an evergreen, pebbles on a shoreline, all these inspire me. I am studying the rock of the Canadian Shield, shorelines around the Great Lakes, and old growth forests along the west coast of British Columbia and California, using the natural patterns to create abstract form. I use colour in layers, allowing the shape and light to dominate, focusing on the way shapes interconnect. Repeat patterns in nature intrigue me. I work mainly in watercolour, both on rag paper and prepared canvas.
