Joy MacFadyen created a large number of “assemblages” over her lifetime. From puppets to table centrepieces nothing escaped her inventive gaze. The practice seems a little bit ‘picassoish’ in a way because she made on each occasion ‘something out of nothing. And actually much of the works are meaningless except in the sense that they create an entertaining and mysterious composition and it’s up to you to figure it out. The exceptional part is that you don’t actually find any significant meaning because the image is left as a curiosity in you mind for days after you have seen it.
