A Kindly Grandmother ...

A Kindly Grandmother ...

Joy admits that she was either too lazy or too busy to save the details about her portraits but she preferred “too busy”. That is why we have no name to accompany this piece but it would surely match some family photos of people who owned a business on Eglinton Avenue. She is shown as a kindly grandmother with a face framed cleverly with the variation of colourful darker tones. In portrait painting these characteristics are no accident but rather a definite undertaking by the artist to give each piece character and meaning suitable for posterity. This is a fine lady with two pearl ear-rings.
