This is one of five portrait pieces commissioned by the Lipton Soup company to show people from across Canada in their advertising series. At the time Joy had a broken ankle the second time it had been broken which gave her problems for the rest of her life. So here she is working in the living room instead of her downstairs studio with oils and her taboret close by. You can see that one would need a steady hand and over the centuries artists have a used a ‘maulstick’ to steady their hand for such purpose. I don’t see one here!
