There is not much of a recorded story for this sculptured owl. One can see immediately that a complicated owl with feathers and colours has been reduced to a minimalist piece of sculpting. Joy had considerably more familiarity with owls than most people because son Rod spent many days and hours at the Owl Foundation in Vineland, Ontario, where injured owls are nursed back to health. So there is a lot more to this piece than initially meets the eye. There is likely a lot of thought and feeling enhancing this simplicity.
