Sheila Ewing has been a lifetime friend of Joy’s since their days working for the Arts Scarborough executive, and this is her dear granddaughter. A favorite of Joy’s out of all her portraits, one can see why with its successful baby portrait feeling and the bright eyed look captured by those brushstrokes. Everything has been simplified in favour of the details of the subject. That’s a very iconic aqua arch and the maroon on the straps echoes the background, so it all ties together very effectively.
