Everybody has best buddies, and this happy couple are the son and daughter-in-law of Joy’s good friend across the street, Maureen. The portraits were a wedding gift. It’s a complicated pose to render with its various foreshortenings. It’s also complicated in its separate parts of skirt, shoes, socks, and tops, but these accoutrements don’t take away from the portrait faces, in fact their individual colourings are complimentary to the facial and limb colourings. The pale background colouring fades to inconsequential which advances the portraits to the subject of the painting.
