Joy’s notes record that she thought this child lived on Brimley, but that’s it, no record of a name or any further details. The swooping cuddling nature of the chair is a clever compositional ploy to give interest, and tie the body and the face together in a relaxed compositional arrangement. The complimentary colours of yellow and purple are obviously evident and the pastel tones give the picture a softness appropriate for a child’s portrait.
