Karoline Koeppel was born 1962 in Berlin. Beginning in 1981 she studied Fine Arts in Berlin, at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes del Peru in Lima, and at the University of Kassel. She graduated as master student under Professor Klaus Fussmann at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin (Academy of Fine Arts, today UdK). A two-year academic visit to Ithaca, NY, USA followed. In 2006 Karoline was awarded the prestigious Benninghaus Prize for painting by the Association of Berlin Artists (Verein Berliner Künstler). She lives and works as an independent artist in Berlin.
For me, the essential tools are brushes, oil paints and canvas, the classic tools of painting. I choose my themes from today's reality. Reality is unlimited – a challenge to deal with it. If you try to bring individual real elements into play with each other, real situations become fictitious ones and vice versa... a process that is never-ending.
