Born in Greifswald, Germany, Uta Jeran began her artistic journey with studies in Art Education and German Language and Literature. She further developed her painting practice at the University of the Arts in Berlin (Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee). In addition to her own artistic practice, she has worked as a painting instructor at the VHS Education Centre and the Atrium Youth Art School, encouraging and supporting young artists. Uta lives and works in Berlin.
Uta Jeran explores landscape, still life, interiors, portraiture, figures and animals through her expressive acrylic paintings. She often abstracts these subjects, creating a striking contrast between light-filled, arcadian landscapes and sensitive, sombre figures. Her approach combines acrylic, gouache and oil, with impulsive brushstrokes, expressive colour and collage techniques.
In her watercolours, Uta explores delicate yet rich nuances of colour, while her silkscreen prints feature clear, illustrative shapes and bold colour. She frequently develops her subjects through a series of related works, allowing her to explore variations in theme, composition and technique.
