A meeting with Councillor Neethan Shan

Members of the Gallery X board met with Toronto Councillor Neethan Shan at the Scarborough Civic Centre to convey the gallery's aspirations and seek his support and advice. The conversation also touched on the Civic Centre itself as a possible starting point for Gallery X — while still an early, "pie in the sky" idea, the board noted that the Civic Centre has recently been declared a heritage building, and that its fifth floor currently sits vacant.

Councillor Shan was supportive, and the board came away encouraged by the meeting's tone and substance.

The gallery sees conversations like this one as part of the groundwork needed at the municipal level — building the kind of cooperation across municipal, provincial, and federal politicians that a project of this scale will ultimately require.
