A meeting with MP Jean Yip

The Existential Art Gallery of Scarborough met with MP Jean Yip on 13 November 2024 to discuss the gallery's future. The meeting was hosted at Gallery X president Peter Marsh's residence and came during the production of a recent exhibition, as the board turned its attention to next steps for the organization, and covered Scarborough's art and artist community alongside the national and international art scene — framing what a renowned public gallery, with unique international design, could mean for a city of Scarborough's size and diversity.

MP Yip was impressed with Gallery X's involvement in the arts, and featured photos of the meeting and recognition of the gallery's name and goals in her own newsletter and on her Facebook page. The relationship has continued since: two paintings from Gallery X were later placed in her parliamentary office in Ottawa to keep the conversation going among colleagues, and MP Yip sends encouraging correspondence from time to time, giving the gallery insight into government policy.

The gallery is grateful for MP Yip's continued support, part of Gallery X's gradual work building relationships with politicians at every level of government.
